United Kingdom – born in London on June 26th, 1982.
He started his training at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London, United Kingdom.
In 1997 he started his professional carrier as a member of the National Youth Dance Company, London. In 1999 he was invited by Matthew Bourne to dance in his company Adventures in Motion Pictures for the creation The Car Man.
From 2001 until 2004, he was a soloist at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, Germany, under the artistic direction of Philip Taylor. After this experience he continued his carrier at Introdans in the Netherlands.
In 2007 he became a soloist at the Bern Ballet under the direction of Cathy Marston.
Since august 2009 he is a member of the Luzerner Theater in Switzerland under the direction of Kathleen McNurney.
During his professional career he worked with the choreographers: Nils Christe, Mats Ek, Jiri Kylián, Paul Lightfoot / Sol Leon, Hans van Manen, Carol Armitage, Matthew Bourne, Guilherme Botelho, Alexander Ekman, Wayne McGregor, Ken Ossola, Georg Reischl, Hofesh Shechter and Cayetano Soto.
He danced pieces from: Mark Baldwin, Maurice Béjart, William Forsythe, David Parsons, Renato Zanella.
He worked extensively with the choreographer Patrick Delcroix, for whom he also regularly assists.
Other professional experiences:
He won the silver medal at the Fewster Cecchetti Scholarship, from that he became the representative of the United Kingdom in the International Ballet Competition in Melbourne, where he was finalist.
He was also a teacher with the ArtEz Dansacademie Arnhem, Netherlands. Presently he teaches modern dance and classical ballet at Dance Art Studio and the Musical Factory in Luzern, Switzerland.
He started to make choreographies at the Rambert School where he created more then 10 pieces.
His choreography Twist of Fate was made in 2009 for the Bern Ballet, for the performance Dance Made in Bern. This piece was nominated for the 24th International Competition for Choreographers, Hannover and the 2010 Sandler’s Wells Global Dance Competition where it reached the final in both competitions.
Ishan Rustem won in Hannover the Publics prize at the 25th International Competition for Choreographers on April 23rd and 24th 2011 with his choreography On the Nature of Daylight.
Further he also created pieces for: Northwest Dance Project Portland USA, National Youth Dance Company, Tanz Luzerner Theater, ArtEz Dansacademie Arnhem Netherlands, Mode Biennale, Dance Art Studio Luzern, Playground Bern, Peter Williams Design for Dance, for the choreographic workshops of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz Munich, Introdans and Dance Made in Bern.
