Edition 2011

Thanks to the first two successful editions in July 2009 and 2010 we will have a 3rd edition of the Interdans Festival in CC De Biekorf, Lebbeke, on July 10th and 11th 2011 at 20:00.

This year we will have for the first time a performance in the Capitole, Ghent, on July 13th at 20:00.

concept

The goal of this Interdans Festival is to give the opportunity to young choreographers, originating from several European Ballet Companies, to work out a contemporary performance with dancers having a strong classical education.

The artistic team consists of 18 young people from 12 different countries. The artistic leader is Bert Uyttenhove assisted from this year on by Clément Bugnon as artistic assistant.

This year 12 young dancers, age 18 till 29 year, and 8 choreographers, average age of 25 year, will elaborate a performance of about one and a half hour.

The number of choreographers rises from 6 to 8. The choreographers are: Ashley Wright – Australia, Bert Uyttenhove – Belgium, Boris Randzio – Austria, Clément Bugnon – Switzerland, Ihsan Rustem – United Kingdom, Matthias Kass – Germany, Stéphen Delattre – France, Yuya Fujinami – Japan.

For the first time we have a female choreographer participating. Ashley Wright’s retakes her most recent choreography in the Festival. With Better Left Unsaid, her former choreographie she won the 2nd prize and the Publics prize at the 4th Copenhagen International Choreography Competition on April 22nd/23rd this year.

Ishan Rustem won in Hannover the Publics prize at the 25th International Competition for Choreographers on April 23rd/24th 2011 with his choreography On the Nature of Daylight.

In 2010 Stéphen Delattre received the Critics prize with From Bad to Worst, also in Hannover.

Thanks to the intense teamwork, this event affords an important added value to the participants, not only on the technical skills but in the first place on the emotional level.

All aspects of this performance, be it artistic, technical or organising, are covered by this young dancers and choreographers. This is not impossible as is shown by the two former performances.

performance

The choreographers of this performance are originating from different ballet companies and are influenced by varying styles, cultures and people. This renders the performance full of variation with also a meaningful depht.

This adds also one of the challenges: bringing together dancers and choreographers with a different background and still create a performance with unity in style and esthetics.

The performance includes seven new creations and one retake: Ominous Parallels created by Ashley Wright for Coupe Maison 5 of the Royal Ballet of Flanders.

participation

Chris Caudron, the coordinator of the Dance Academy of De Gemeentelijke Academie voor Muziek, Woord en Dans in Lebbeke, was so generous to participate in the Festival by creating the opening piece. The opening will be, amongst others, performed by one of her students with a professional dance education at the Royal Balletschool Antwerp and one student of the higher grade.

The artistic team looks forward to the collaboration with the young dancers from Lebbeke and to share their passion for the stage.

The performance in Capitole, Ghent, is in cooperation with Jeugd en Dans Antwerp.

travel and residence

The choreographers and dancers reside at the Uyttenhoves place for about ten days.

The expences for travelling are in charge of Interdans vzw.

costumes and decor

Most of the costumes are bought, steadily providing Interdans vzw with a collection of costumes, which can be used later. However we are sometimes obliged to hire some of the costumes, which cause a supplementary cost.

To reduce expences, the sets are constructed by volunteers mostly. Nevertheless there are a lot of extra expences such as: renting of a dance floor, extra spotlights, etc.

sponsoring and grants

Interdans vzw is a young and small organisation running on the goodwill of a number of enthousiastic volunteers (thank you so much!).

Without our sponsors, based on the principle that many small ones make a big one, we would not be able to realize this performance. We remain hopeful that more major sponsors will contribute to this event.

Hence we greatly appreciate the support of the community of Lebbeke and the province of Oost-Vlaanderen for our previous events.

press and publicity

Bert Uyttenhove, Clément Bugnon and Lenneth Bennaicha, the poster/website designer, are working closely together to set up a new publicity campaign. They run through all positive and negative sides of the previous campaign and learn from the statistics to improve it.

A photoshoot is held for the new poster, the layout is discussed and realized.

A press map is prepared, which enlights the previous performances.

The website is updated and the posters, flyers and tickets are printed and distributed. The press map is send and the press begets an invitation.
